New Year, Healthy You: Fitness Challenge for January 2017

Happy New Year! We’re excited to get back into focusing on getting (or keeping) ourselves healthy in the new year!

This month, we’re going to be focusing on setting goals and building a routine – that’s how we stick with healthy trends.

First up:

Set goals!

healthy goals

What are your health goals for January, or even for all of 2017? Write those babies down!

When you’re writing down your goals, you should always break them down into doable actions. That makes them much more achievable.

For example: if my goal for 2017 is to build muscle tone, that’s a very broad goal. It’s great to write that down, but then I also need to write down how I’m going to achieve it.

One way to do this would be to write down a list of the daily (or every-other-day) exercises I’m going to do to achieve my goal. Then I can check them off on the days that I complete them, tracking my progress.

Next up:

Recruit an accountabili-buddy! This can be a pen pal, a local pal, or even us here at Iggle Fitness. Let someone know what your goals are so that they can root for you and help you achieve them!

Last but not least:

Chase those goals!

We can’t wait to see you achieve them!

Exercise challenge for January

To help you get started, below are a few exercises we’re going to be doing this month. This is a 3 day per week schedule – you can do the exercises on any days of the week/schedule that works for you. As you adapt to the new routine, you can add more reps (each exercise x2 or x3) to help keep things challenging.

Day 1

  • 5 squats – hold each for 30 sec
  • 5 pushups
  • 25 bicycle crunches

Day 2

  • 50 jumping jacks
  • 10 high lunges
  • 5 “down dog” pushups (Downward-facing dog to plank, and back)

Day 3

We’d love to see your progress, hear your goals for January (and beyond!), and help cheer you on. Be sure to check us out in the forums and on Twitter! See you there!

Being healthy isn’t just about exercise – it’s also about eating well, taking your emotional and mental temperature, and focusing on all-around wellness. Physical fitness is just one component of overall health, and they are ALL important! In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing some additional tips, tricks, and recipes that focus on all aspects of health and well-being, so stay tuned!
